Personal Experiences
The first academic year 2021/22 of the Master's programme consisted of an international student body from all over the world.
Here, four of our pioneers report on their experiences of the programme and their impressions during the year.
Arthur, University of Fort Hare
"In a global village we live in it is important for lawyers to understand the legal systems of other countries and regions. As a non EU citizen, this course has given me a wider perspective on how the EU functions. The modules are dynamic, interesting and challenging all with the aim of helping you understand the EU. The staff is super friendly and the diversity of the students allows you to learn more about regions outside of the EU. I cannot think of a better programme if you want to study EU Law."
Claire, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
"There are plenty possibilities to study online nowadays, yet you can find that mostly at universities which are young and unexperienced, which can be truly hindering for your development. Having this high class education at the University of Cologne, the Master's programme connected me with interesting people all over the world and is a boost for my career. While many Master's programmes are held very general, we got the opportunity to focus on our aims and interests from the first weeks on. Moreover, we experienced individual support from the application process till our Master's thesis. I can therefore highly recommend the programme to everyone who is interested in the future possibilities of law and the complexity of a system like the EU, as well as a beneficial addition to your education."
Predrag, University of Ljubljana
"I have nothing but high praise for the European Legal Perspectives LL.M. programme. Outstanding professors and assistants, extraordinarily helpful and responsive administrative staff, and a high quality and extremely interesting curriculum deliver a very enjoyable learning experience. The foundational modules in the first semester provide both a practical and a scientific insight into the principal facets of European Union law, while the specialisation modules in the second semester enable a deep dive in a chosen field of academic interest. All this is available in a one-year LL.M. course organised by one of the most renowned German universities. Last but not least, the possibility of studying in English and online makes this programme a great opportunity. Anyone searching for an education of excellence in the area of EU law should look no further: ELP is the place for you."
İrem, Istanbul University
"The ELP programme at the University of Cologne is one of the best options for those willing to step up academically in a short time, without being obliged to leave their settlement or workplace. Since the lectures are in English, it is extremely convenient for people all around the world. The programme is enabling students to have a comprehensive and deep perception not only on the tangible aspects of European law and the European Union, but on the thoughts creating and forming them based on the transforming conditions and needs. At the same time, the programme paved the way for me to have a specialty in my field of interest by providing electives on several specific fields of EU law. I feel very lucky to have the classes from very precious academics who are the experts of their specialties."
